Paper-Paintings Collage Workshop: Vieux Quebec
With Artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire
Trip Dates: October 15-20, 2017
Elizabeth travels to Quebec from her home in Central Florida, to share with us her talent and passion for collage and paper-painting. She holds a B.F.A. in Advertising Design from Syracuse University – an educational approach that prepared her for a dual identity as fine artist and graphic designer; today, the former is her full-time passion, and her only graphic design client is herself. Elizabeth is best known for her fresh take on the paper arts, which she shares in her newly published book, Painting with Paper. She has been published in multiple books and articles, and her award-winning art has been honored by the National Collage Society’s Signature Members Exhibition at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, as well as in various competitions, including The Artist’s Magazine Annual Art Competition (2014 and 2015) and The Artist’s Magazine All Media Competition (2010).
What to Expect:
If you’ve ever been drawn to colorful, hand painted papers, collage, or similar arts, your dreams can come true in scenic Old Quebec. Over six days and five nights, participants will dive into the world of representational collage, using hand-painted papers.
What you bring home will be more than a beautiful project; it’s new motivation for color and invention. It’s excitement for the artistic process. It’s fresh inspiration and creativity. It’s a zest for making something beautiful with your own two hands – for making something that will enrich and enhance your life, far beyond the seven days we spend together.
Talented artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire shares this experience with us. We’re traveling to a beautiful place and immersing ourselves in art, in a way we rarely have the time, or the opportunity, or the motivation to seek in our hectic, packed-to-brimming everyday lives. This is a combined vacation-creative experience, designed to inspire both relaxation and incredible art.
With the incredible in mind, Old Quebec is a spectacularly beautiful city of natural beauty and historic architecture, where art and creativity flow like a river. Escape with us and push your everyday worries aside, if only for a short time; for now, for just these seven days, forbid life from getting in the way of your artistic process. Be motivated, get excited. Relax and experience the natural and historic beauty that Quebec offers.
For this workshop, Elizabeth will demo hand-painting paper techniques and collage. In between learning and creating, we’ll tour the city and surrounding area – we’ll let the splendor of our surrounds seep into our artistic souls, infusing our creations with fresh thought and new inspiration.
Come, experiment with us. Be inspired by new subject matter. Step outside your comfort zone. See a new place through invigorated eyes. Seize this opportunity, and see what creations await!
The Hotel Clarendon, your historic and luxurious home for the next six days, dates to 1870 and is just minutes’ on foot to some of Old Quebec’s famous sites: Le Chateau Frontenac (2 minutes), the Fort Museum, and La Citadelle de Québec (12 minutes), among them.
Wrought iron gates, ancient beams, antique pieces and furniture, lustrous marble flooring – these details adorn the hotel, and infuse your home-away-from-home with tradition and antiquity. Rich details breathe inspiration into every moment, and every extraordinary corner remembers our ancestors and collective history.
As spectacular as is the hotel’s architecture, its upscale accouterments offer a cherry on top: Decadent fine dining, an elegant jazz bar (with year-round jazz concerts), and next-door spa are all on offer, while the hotel’s central location puts the city at your fingertips.
Best of all, we’ll have 24/7 access to our onsite studio. Whenever inspiration strikes, you’ll have the perfect place to create!
A slice of Old Europe in the New World, Vieux Québec (also known as Historic, or Old Quebec) was founded in the 17th century. This is a place of legendary beauty, divided into two parts: the Upper Town and the Lower Town.
The Upper Town is, fittingly, located high on a clifftop. Once the primary defense for Quebec, this colonial town is home to the fortress Citadel, the castle-like Château Frontenac, and fortified ramparts. Below, the Lower Town sits on the harbor, opening onto a bustling urban center.
Both historic and culturally significant, Vieux Québec is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage City. It’s impossible not to feel inspired here.
With its historical setting and fine detailing,
the Hotel Clarendon is the perfect setting for
