Our Muse:

Jane travels to us from San Diego, California, to share her passion and talent for watercolor sketching. She has extensive art-teaching experience, and while Jane is best known for her watercolor sketching, she is also a skilled paper and cloth artist, experienced in quilting, mixed media and painting; she’s also renowned for her fun-loving, creative teaching, which she delivers in a relaxed and supportive environment. Jane’s artwork is often featured in in Cloth, Paper, Scissors and Quilting Arts magazines, and was featured in Danny Gregory’s An Illustrated Life. She has appeared on several TV/DVD art programs, has authored articles, and has contributed to nearly two dozen books on art and artistry.

What to Expect:

Have you always wanted to keep an illustrated travel journal but never knew where to start? Or, do you love to draw and paint, and would love to travel with like-minded people?  – This was created just for you.

Over six days and five nights, you will explore the world of watercolor sketching – of an art that captures the world’s beauty in a way no camera ever could.  Learn to draw and paint what you see and experience, creating an illustrated journal filled with delightful scenes from your days. Your days will be spent drawing and painting in a relaxed, fun environment with a group of like-minded travelers. Each day, we’ll go to a charming locale and Jane will demonstrate drawing and painting with watercolor. She’ll gently guide beginners (yes, she can teach you to draw) and experienced alike to see and capture the details and memories in a straightforward, intuitive approach with pen and watercolor. You’ll create a set of watercolor journal pages as unique as your own handwriting. Jane will show you how to enhance your drawings with creative page layouts and journaling. You’ll bring home a priceless collection of small watercolors depicting your experiences and memories of your trip.

“On two wonderful occasions I had to opportunity to go on Jane La Fazio’s Sketching and Watercolor trips.  I can honestly say they were life changing experiences.  We traveled to beautiful places filled with inspiration for our watercolor sketches.  Each day Jane gave us clear and inspiring lessons, teaching us to see things in a new way. Her patience, kindness and sharing of her passion for seeing the world through an artist’s eyes were something we all benefitted from.  I look forward to my next adventure with Jane and the wonderful students she inspires to travel with her.  I want to add that upon returning from my last trip with Jane, I realized I was literally tingling with excitement to create some little piece of art every day.  Thank you, Jane!”  Pat Dicker Mill Valley, California

“Travelling with Jane is like meeting your best friend for an adventure. Along the way you will find inspiration, education, encouragement, food, wine, fun, a bit of history and lots of love – all with people you’ll feel as though you’ve known forever. With Jane’s gentle (and persistent) help I have learnt that I can draw – something I never thought I would say and have found a new and wonderfully creative outlet that I can pursue anywhere. If you have a chance to experience one of Jane’s trips, make sure you grab it and then hold on for the trip of a lifetime.” Leanne G. Melbourne, Australia

Gift yourself with opportunity – with the chance to put aside your everyday responsibilities and overworked schedules, if only for a few days, in exchange for inspiration, relaxation and a lot of fun!

Our journey begins in Old Montreal at the Hotel Place d’ Armes. Sophistication with luxurious comforts, this 19th-century neoclassical building situated opposite the breathtaking Notre-Dame Basilca – an architecture aficionado’s dream, rolled into lavish rooms and boutique amenities. This is signature Montreal: Old City elegance and historic detailing, with joie de vivre that will infuse your artist’s soul.

In Vieux Québec, we switch to the Hotel Clarendon, which matches the Place d’Armes for history and luxury. Dating to 1870, the hotel is within walking distance of the city’s most inspirational sights: Le Chateau Frontenac (2 minutes), the Fort Museum, and La Citadelle de Québec (12 minutes), among others.

If you’ve ever drawn inspiration from cobblestone streets, dreamy sidewalk cafes, gardens filled with vibrant colors and beautiful scents, charming old world architecture – look no further than Old Montreal and Vieux Quebec.

These twin bastions of Old Europe grace the New World with the historic, the urbane, the cultured, the timeworn – with the kind of creative inspiration you’d expect from the world’s oldest and most sophisticated cities. They are places of beauty and antiquity, and they are the perfect scenic backdrop for sketching with Jane.

Glowing lights and art nouveau architecture, romantic cobblestones and frolicking street performers, a bustling harbor and the charm of the centuries – these are the sights, sounds and inspirations of Old Montreal.

Meanwhile, Vieux Québec is a 17th century fortified city, divided between a clifftop Upper Town and waterfront Lower Town. From a fortress Citadel to the grand Château Frontenac, from a hard-working harbor to a bustling city center, this enchanting city manages to blend the historic with the contemporary.

In two Old World cities and New World locations,

at twin hotels filled with  history,

Jane will inspire you to both wander and wonder.

With Old Montreal and Vieux Québec

before you,

With watercolors and a sketchbook

in your hands,

this workshop leverages its surrounds to incite and inspire.

Explore, adventure, embrace and study –

the surrounds, the architecture, the natural beauty,

of the old-yet-new in Montreal and Quebec.
